Below find a sampling of poems, prayers and psalms previously utilized at a Memorial at Sea aboard the Metamorphosis in Atlantic City, New Jersey. There is not true right of wrong for a Scattering at Sea Service.  This is a very personal moment that is tailored to the family and friends' preference.  The Captain of the Metamorphosis would be happy to recite and of the poems and prayers on your behalf at the Burial at Sea Memorial.

Alone I Will Not Be

My comfort will come from the sea.
The stillness of calm waves will gently drift by
I will be as one with the sea.

When the sun sets on the ocean blue, remember me as I will always remember you.
As the sun rises…go live life as full as can be
Apart…you and me…but be at peace for I am free.

Burial at Sea Prayer: for Sailor

 Oh God, we pray thee that the memory of our (family member, Friend) be ever sacred in our hearts,

... and that the sacrifice which they have offered for cause may be acceptable in thy sight.

... and may this sailor find repose with the sea in which he gave his life that we might live.

Into thy hands, oh Lord, we commend the soul of thy servant departed, now called unto eternal rest, and we commit his body to the deep.

The Twenty Third Psalm

The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green Pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointed my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.Type your paragraph here.

We Remember Them

At the rinsing of the sun and at its going down
 We remember them.

At the blowing of the wind and the chill of the winter
We remember them

At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of Spring
We remember them

At the blueness of the skies and the warmth of the Summer
We remember them

At the rustling of the leaves and the beauty of Autumn
We remember them

At the beginning or the year and when it ends
We remember them

As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us, as we remember them

When we are weary and in the need for strength
We remember them

When we are lost and sick at heart
We remember them

When we have joy we crave to share
We remember them

When we have decisions that are difficult to make
We remember them

When we have achievements that are based on theirs
We remember them

As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us, as we remember them

There is an appointed time for everything

There is an appointed time for everything.  And there is a time for every event under heaven –

 A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant a time to uproot what is planted.

A time to hurt and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build.

 A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.

A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.

 A time to search and a time to give up as lost:
A time to keep and a time to throw away.

A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.

A time to Love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.

O God, full of compassion. Thou who dwellest on high!  Grant perfect rest beneath the sheltering wings of thy presence, among the holy and pure who shine as the brightest of the firmament unto the soul of ____________________   who has gone unto eternity.

Lord of mercy, bring him (her) under the cover of thy wings,, and let is (her) soul be bound up in the bond of eternal life.  Be thou him (her) possession, and may his (her) repose be peace. Amen

Birth is a beginning, and death a destination

Birth is a beginning, and death a destination

But life is a journey, a going - a growing

From stage to stage

From childhood to maturity and youth to age

From Innocence to awareness and ignorance to knowing;

From foolishness to discretion and then perhaps to wisdom

From weakness to strength or strength to weakness-

And, often, back again, From health to sickness

And back, we pray, to health again

From offense to forgiveness, from loneliness to love,

From joy to gratitude, from pain to compassion,

And grief to understanding - from fear to faith

From defeat to defeat to defeat - until, looking backward or ahead,

We see that victory lies not at some high place along the way,

But in having made the journey, stage by stage -

A sacred pilgrimage

Birth is the beginning, and death a destination;

But life is a journey, a sacred pilgrimage

Made stage by stage-from birth to death

To life everlasting
